I have uses monk cloth before but its hella expensive and basically sold out everywhere
this is a great alternative I like it even better because it is a little bit looser
TIPP or warning if you browse for fabric on amazon some of the sellers sell super small pieces in a 5 pack so read the description very carefully otherwise you might end up with the smallest pieces
also a lot of them have a comment section where ppl have posted what they've used it for, if some ppl posted punch needle projects its a good indicator if the fabric could work
loose linen or burlap can work as well
this linen is pretty affordable and works as well
I use a stapler gun to fixate the fabric on an old canvas frame
I think an old picture frame wich is kinda sturdy would work as well
I simply shuff something flat underneath the staple needles to pull them back out when I want to move the fabric
you can use one of these as well - I just don't like them because you have to move them so often
that's the oxford punch needle I use wich works for all kinda 'standard' thick kinds of wool
that's an alternative if you have plans for super thin yarn or super thick
just doooooon't get the plastic needles ... been there
that's the shaver I use its cheap - the scissors that come with it- just don't use them...they just pretend but the shaver is super decent - gets the job done is cheap - that's what I like. also is recharging via usb
for a piece wich is about 70 cm by 50 cm I used 8 yarn blobs (150 meters) (how are the called!?) in the size of the white ones
2 green ones
4 white ones
2 (approx) orange because it was this huge blob
tbh a lot of my yarn comes from cheap places since I was not planning to wear it as clothing
acrylic yarn is totally fine if you don't want to spend a fortune on real wool
the wool I linked is just an example, it is pretty short (50m) per blob so you don't have too much of one color, but its the kind of wool I used for the one on the pic
to make sure the loops stay nice and secure on the back you can spread fabric glue all over the back -
I use iron on fleece you normally would use for sewing
